PROJECTS

Title: Revegetating the Numeralla River Catchment
Funding: NHT Murray-Darling 2001 Program
Year: 1998-2001
Description: The aim of this joint project between the Numeralla and Nimmitabel Landcare Groups is to develop and implement a plan of action to reverse the long term decline in native vegetation within the Numeralla River Catchment. Areas requiring immediate action will be identified and prioritised. A series of on ground works will be implemented with a focus on re-establishing vegetation in severley degraded sites whilst in other areas removing the threatening processes to encourage regeneration. Support will be provided to land managers to assist in developing a revegetation program for their individual property. Landholders will also be provided with the skills and knowledge to maintain these sites and reduce future degradation impacts.

Title: Numeralla River Catchment Restoration
Funding: Murray-Darling 2001
Year: 1997/1998
Description: To create a fenced off riparian zone along a 30 km section of the Numeralla River to stabilize river banks by excluding stock and revegetation of the area.

Title: Numeralla River Catchment Restoration
Funding: Murray-Darling 2001
Year: 1997-1999
Description: To restore the badly degraded Numeralla River Catchment by continuing to create a riparian zone along the Murrumbidgee River by fencing off the river to exclude stock.

Title: Stabilising Blyton's Sheepyard Creek
Funding: Murray-Darling 2001
Year: 2000-2002
Description: Sheepyard Creek is a tributary of the Numeralla River in the Upper Murrumbidgee Catchment and is an area of active erosion. Streambank erosion along the creek is resulting in increased turbidity and sediment loads entering the Numeralla river. On-ground works at this site will also address the issues of management of the riparian zones and surface water quality management. The Department of Land and Water Conservation (DLWC) has developed a restitution plan for the creek which focuses on restoration works along 7 sites of the Creek. Activities during this 2 year project will include the construction of a rock ramp, re-alignment of the embankment, the construction of 3 rock weirs, fencing out the creek to limit stock access and re-vegetation of the site with native trees and shrubs. Revegetation along the banks will also act as a corridor linking Mount Numeralla, and area of remnant vegetation with the Numeralla River.

Title: Badja River Habitat Protection
Funding: NHT NRM Program
Year: 2003/04
Description: This project will protect enhance and conserve a 1.2 km section of the Badja River corridor by fencing 20 m from the top of the river bank. Two of the three property owners involved will establish off stream stock watering troughs. This project aims to demonstrate to others in the Badja River corridor the high conservation returns gained by protecting this high quality flora and fauna corridor.
