PROJECTS

Title: Malebo Recharge Revegetation and Green Corridor
Program: Bushcare
Descriptio:n The eroding granite ridge line of project site typically displays large areas of exposed boulders, with shallow surrounding soils, principally a result of mass clearing of local native plant species over the last century. This area has then become a high recharge area for groundwater. By fencing and reestablishing native vegetation, recharge from this area can be reduced substantially. Further, this project will provide the link between two otherwise discrete areas of remnant vegetation together forming a green corridor around 5km in length.
Funding: (2000/2001) $3,450; (2001/2002) $3,650; Total Australian Government Funding $7,100

Title: Yathella Revegetation Project
Program: NRM
Description: This project will erect 1.1km of fence and revegetate an area of eroded gully. This project will plant 1160 native tree and shrub species and allow for the recovery of groundcover. The removal of livestock from the area will also remove pressures placed on the area by hard-hoofed animals. The dieback of existing trees and the lack of recruitment will be rectified by planting and allowing natural regeneration.
Funding: (2004/2005) $4,004
